Metro Roofing Newsletter — Issue 05

Spring returns, and issue five tackles the annual miracle: the snow melt that turns every Minnesota gutter into a small waterfall. This issue is about drainage, the least glamorous and most consequential topic in roofing.

Water that cannot leave your roof invents its own exits. Gutters pitched a degree wrong soak fascia boards. Downspouts dumping beside the foundation create basement complaints no sump pump enjoys. Valleys choked with last year's granules back water up under shingles during the exact weeks when freeze-thaw is cruelest.

Our spring service round: gutter cleaning and re-pitching, downspout extensions aimed away from foundations, valley flushing, and a photographic inspection of every flashing we can reach. Homeowners are often surprised how many problems we find that cost less than a dinner out to fix, and how many of those same problems, ignored, become the $4,000 kind.

Project highlight: a Hopkins home where twenty years of bad drainage had rotted the eaves so subtly the owners blamed the windows. New gutters, new fascia, new underlayment at the eaves, and a bill far kinder than the ceiling repair they were expecting.

Drainage is destiny. Give your water somewhere polite to go.
