Brand New Roof for an Excelsior Home

This Excelsior project shows what happens when a homeowner decides to stop patching and start fresh. The lakeside home had a tired asphalt roof, two layers deep in places, with the usual Minnesota scars: ice-dam damage along the eaves, brittle shingles on the south slope, and flashing that had been caulked more times than anyone cared to count.

We began, as always, with a full tear-off and deck inspection. Finding and repairing soft spots before the new roof goes on is the difference between a roof that lasts thirty years and one that calls in sick in a decade. Once the deck was sound, we installed ice-and-water shield along all vulnerable edges, synthetic underlayment throughout, and a standing seam steel system the homeowners selected to complement their cedar siding.

Steel was the right call for this property. It sheds lake-effect snow, laughs at hail, and the dark standing seam lines look like they were drawn by the architect on purpose. The chimney and skylight flashing were custom-bent in our shop, and the venting package was recalculated for the attic's unusual geometry.

The homeowners now watch storms from their porch with the calm of people who have stopped worrying. That peace of mind is the real product we sell.
